It only takes one lion Scotland’s return to the World Cup has inspired a new anthem from legendary Glasgow band Belle and Sebastian. Give it a listen and get behind the Tartan Army. https://lnkd.in/ebGy8GWn

Are today's business models built for a global reality that has already shifted beneath our feet? In this Saltire Sentinel feature, Witold Wisniewski from Better Organisations breaks down why rapid shifts in AI, robotics, sustainability, and geopolitics represent a permanent structural change for SMEs rather than a temporary disruption. He outlines why rigid legacy frameworks leave companies vulnerable and how adopting a dynamic business design approach allows leaders to test assumptions and adapt faster than the market. The future of our nation is up for debate. What steps would you like to see take place?
What kind of Scotland do we want to live in by 2050? I'm sure we can all suggest answers to this question, and I will have the chance to hear many of these as I attend the Scotland 2050 Conference in Edinburgh this week. This feels like exactly the right moment to be having a serious, thoughtful and ambitious conversation about Scotland’s future, and I must thank Barrie Cunning and the team for pulling this event together so soon after the recent elections. There is a strong agenda planned for the day, but I am looking forward to two sessions in particular. 𝐍𝐨. 1: The Keynote address by Ivan McKee, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Reform. Getting Public Sector reform right is a critical focus for governments everywhere; all are facing rising demand, tighter budgets, ageing populations, digital disruption and falling public trust, while citizens expect services to be faster, fairer and easier to access. The nations that reform well will be better able to deliver for their people, support economic growth, respond to crises and build the confidence needed for long-term national success. Scotland is recognised as a world leader in the use of GovTech-focused solutions, which will play an important part in any reform. Look no further than CivTech Scotland to see what can be achieved. 𝐍𝐨. 2: The session, “Navigating Change: Scotland’s Place in a Global Landscape,” with Charandeep Singh BEM, Paul Sweeney MSP, Councillor Lezley Marion Cameron, Carol Mochan MSP and Kathryn Porter, U.S. Consul General in Edinburgh. As Chair of Scottish Business Network, I have a keen interest in how we can better utilise our Global Scottish Family to the benefit of Scotland as a whole, and I hope to hear ideas surfaced in this debate as to how this can be achieved. Great to see the US Consul General participating in the panel discussion at this moment when all Scottish eyes are looking to Boston and Miami - perhaps the great Soft Power moment in our history! If you are attending, please do say hello. I am always keen to meet others who care about Scotland’s future and its place in the world. Read Russell Dalgleish's thoughts on the subject of "hope" and what it means to a Scottish Football fan. We at Scottish Business Network wish every success to the team as they depart today for the USA. A wonderful adventure, and you all have our backing. Scottish Football Association #TeamScotland
This week in "Thinking Aloud", my thoughts return to football The Scotland team departed today for the USA to prepare for our participation in the 2026 Football World Cup. They travel in hope and carry with them a nation's desire for success. As Chairman of Scottish Business Network, the buzz in our community has focused on talk of tickets, time zones (is the Haiti game really 2 am on Sunday, June 14th?), selection and a tragic injury to Billy Gilmour. So what is this thing called "hope" and why are we afflicted by it?

One in six young people will be left out of education, employment, or training within five years unless urgent action is taken to close the opportunity gap. A major review has warned of a growing youth worklessness crisis across the UK, highlighting the critical need for structured interventions that reconnect the next generation with the economy. For the business community, reversing this trend is not just a social responsibility, it is an absolute necessity for securing a resilient, skilled, and diverse future talent pipeline. What do the Scottish Business Network members think needs to be done to help Scotland's next generation? Read the full report and insights here: https://lnkd.in/eCNg3yDF
