As announced at the the Mobile World Congress the French telecom and broadcast provider TDF launching the operational deployment of 5G BROADCAST starting in 2026: around twenty sites in France this year to cover more than 12 million inhabitants, followed by a gradual rollout until the end of 2028 with more than 320 sites across the country and more than 40 million people covered. The BBC is now piloting AI-generated “At a glance” summaries and style-rewriting tools to speed up local news publishing. Translation: the BBC sees that audiences want faster, clearer, more scannable news, and they’re using AI to deliver it. But here’s my question: will any of this make someone more likely to click on a BBC article? We live in a world where Google already answers most news-related questions at the top of the search page before you ever click a link. That’s the blue link problem: traditional news articles are increasingly skipped in favor of AI-generated snippets or summaries. I think it's telling that the Economist has one of the strongest brands in media and yet even it is publishing to Substack. It's further indication that publishers are start seeing Substack as less a competitor and more of a distribution platform -- one of the few platforms that actually make it easier for them to collect email addresses.
