On April 3, 2016, the Panama Papers exposed more than 11 million leaked documents tied to offshore entities and hidden financial flows. For fraud examiners, this investigation brought existing challenges into sharper focus. Financial investigations were growing more complex, but this marker in time amplified the need to look closely at shell companies and intermediaries. In response, governments pushed for greater transparency around ownership and entity controls, along with stronger cross-jurisdiction coordination.
