93% of adults over 65 have a chronic condition, and nearly 80% have 2 or more. According to the CDC, 4 in 5 of the costliest chronic diseases impacting seniors can be managed or mitigated through lifestyle interventions including regular physical activity, nutrition, and quality sleep. While MA plans are laser focused on reducing cost of care through critical efforts like care coordination, RPM, medication adherence, and more, lifestyle interventions too often take a backseat in members' programs and care plans. Why is that, and what is the impact for members and plans? We explore this and more on the missing layer for chronic condition management for seniors in our latest article on Bold's blog. https://lnkd.in/ebAYCQHb

“Outcome-Aligned Payments also support prevention by rewarding improvement or control of leading disease indicators, such as elevated blood pressure, weight, hemoglobin A1c levels, and lipid levels, so organizations succeed by keeping people healthy.” In their Perspective piece on ACCESS in JAMA this week, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services's Abe Sutton and Jacob Shiff explore the benefits of OAPs, expected savings, and risk mitigations for overtreatment and care fragmentation, while reinforcing the model’s bedrocks: access and affordability. By aligning incentives, supporting integrated care, and rewarding high-value technology-enabled care and clinical excellence, ACCESS carries exciting promise for better quality care and more innovation in Medicare. Building and innovating specifically for seniors is what Bold has done since our earliest days, and we're eager to bring our AI-enabled personalized programs for MSK pain to millions more Medicare beneficiaries through ACCESS. Equally eager to see how this model propels more novel, technology-first approaches to chronic disease management, prevention, and longevity for this deserving population. https://lnkd.in/eev9ayVf

$381 Billion. That's the estimate one conservative study calculated for annual spending on MSK conditions and pain - more than diabetes and cardiovascular disease. As the population ages and chronic comorbidities increase, changing our approach to MSK from traditionally reactive physical therapy and pain management to deliver real cost savings is growing more urgent. Evidence points to the value of shifting toward earlier intervention and personalized virtual programs that integrate prevention for total cost of care savings, Stars/Quality improvements, and overall patient outcomes. In our latest, we dive into why more MA plans are making this shift and what reimagined MSK care for seniors looks like. https://lnkd.in/eDtQGhzw

Our co-founder and CEO Amanda Rees joined Health Tech Nerds earlier this week to talk behavior change, what we’ve learned about engaging Medicare populations, and why we’re excited to serve more members through ACCESS. Give it a listen!
An interesting exercise, pun very much intended, is thinking about the sort of companies that might be able to thrive in the ACCESS model cooked up by the CMS Innovation Center. One thesis we had after the rates were announced was around wearables and connected devices. But after chatting with Amanda Rees, CEO and cofounder of Bold, I heard a different and equally plausible theory of the case between their behavior change model and social referral engine. It's worth a listen to the whole interview, linked in the comments, and worth watching Bold's results in the program when they start to come out in the coming years.

A thoughtful set of takeaways for leaders of all levels - like shifting to a "learn-it-all" mindset when it comes to AI - from Bold's very own Sara Young after this year's WBL (Women Business Leaders of the US Health Care Industry Foundation).
What an exhilarating few days at my very first WBL (Women Business Leaders of the US Health Care Industry Foundation) Summit! I left Orlando feeling incredibly energized and inspired by the collective wisdom of leaders shaping the future of healthcare. The energy of this community is truly unmatched, and I have so much actionable inspiration to bring back to my team at Bold! Here are a few key takeaways that made an impression: • Embracing AI as a Partner - leaders are well-served by shifting from a "know-it-all" to a "learn-it-all" mindset, particularly when it comes to AI-enablement. To gain a strategic and competitive advantage, it's essential to embed AI throughout the company culture and start experimenting with agentic AI now. Get in the sandbox! And while AI is a valued partner, relational intelligence will always be an asset, as moral agency is where the buck stops in healthcare. • Investing in Influence - women-led companies demonstrate remarkable success, representing 25% of VC-funded exits despite receiving only 2% of VC funding. The industry needs to continue investing in diverse founding teams who possess lived experience with the problem they aim to solve. I'm lucky to have this at the helm of Bold with cofounders Amanda Rees & Hari Arul. • Financial Power and Philanthropy - a significant inter-spousal wealth transfer is coming (https://lnkd.in/gf_XCDUN), ahead of intergenerational wealth transfer thereafter, making it more critical than ever for women to be fully engaged in their personal financial decisions. With wealth comes a powerful call-to-action to support safety net organizations serving the underinsured and uninsured in our communities. Pick one and make a difference, today. • Leadership and Growth - a powerful message resonated: strive to be the "only ME in a room," not just the only woman. Focus on what you are learning every day, you don't have to have all the answers, and string it together. Focus on your employees first, put "the noise in your pocket" and lead with confidence. Cheers to the enduring power of community, and here's to the next 25 years of female leadership in healthcare! P.S. Thanks to the best Summit navigator I could have asked for, Stacey Eggleston, who welcomed me into this one-of-a-kind village with open arms, and to my long-time friend and colleague Jessica Bell van der Wal for being in my circle for over 10 years now!
