The line in this piece by David Ignatius that people continue to bring up to me , including our great Gov Josh Shapiro, is this: “Screw Silicon Valley! We’ll build it here in Western Pennsylvania, for people that nobody cared about.”
It speaks to something that the “contrarians” from the valley and Wall Street have missed: the “secrets hiding in plain sight” which will disrupt industries must be observable. What that means is, in the Real World, the industries like power, energy, mining, metals, manufacturing, and defense have been forgotten about by the innovation ecosystem of America.
We are mimetic creatures and therefore will “think differently” in the environment we exist in. When Troy Demmer and I were offered millions to stay in CA, we turned it down because of a principled value, “being there”: Close to the customers and the problems. Wearing the steal toed boots and hardhats not in a comfy lab in Cupertino where we theorized about the problems.
Gecko was built off of the idea that the best technology in the world must be first built for the people who put their lives on the line for civilization to exist and grow!
If you believe what I believe, and if you want to build technology for these forgotten people, come to Gecko Robotics, and join a mission that is contrarian to the ideas you’ve been told are true about building a tech company.
