I’m proud of our team, and the decision we took. It was not easy. But it had to be made. The support has been overwhelming. There are not enough words to express the gratitude we feel for all of you! Let this be the start of a solidarity and unity that goes beyond convening spaces, honesty and transparency that become the blueprint of the conversations with our donors and partners, and a commitment to show up the way this community has collectively showed up for us, our team, and everyone who makes up the very DNA of this movement.

This was a heartbreaking, but important decision for us to make and I hope the transparency we offer sends a strong message about the resiliency of the digital rights movement. To our community, RightsCon has never been just a conference; it was born as a form of unity and a powerhouse for the digital rights community to bring diverse stakeholders together in the same space. The cancellation is a direct assault against, and attempt to silence the voices of, local and regional partners, a calculated attempt to quash a global movement and hand the keys of the future to authoritarians. But let them be warned: we are not retreating. We are transforming. This moment is a catalyst to evolve, to sharpen our resolve, and to build a more resilient, unbreakable movement than ever before.
