This time, we will check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL1164<\/strong><\/a> guitar strings for 7-string guitars. As you may know, I&#8217;m a big fan of trying as many guitar strings as possible so I can deliver a fact and experience-based opinion to my visitors.\u00a0Although this is pretty costly, I can&#8217;t resist experiencing all these guitar strings and sharing my opinions with you. When I got my <a href=\"https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/guitar-reviews\/schecter-hellraiser-hybrid-pt-7-ultra-violet-review\/\"><strong>Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid PT-7<\/strong><\/a>, I also ordered some extra sets of strings to try, as I was a complete stranger to 7-string guitars. So back in the day, I had the chance to try and test <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl09564sb.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL 09564SB<\/strong><\/a>, which was a 9.5 to 64 gauge. While ordering my gear and accessories from Thomann, I also bought many guitar strings to try (including 11-64 gauge!). I received my order containing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL 1164<\/strong><\/a> strings in the summer of 2023 and finally restrung my <a href=\"https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/guitar-reviews\/schecter-hellraiser-hybrid-pt-7-ultra-violet-review\/\"><strong>Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid PT-7<\/strong><\/a> and created this piece of content for you (almost a year later!).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>TL;DR<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I think <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL 1164<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>is pretty good choice for your 7 string guitars. Especially, if you are into lower tunings such as Bb standard.<\/p>\n<p>The problem with NYXL series strings is that I believe they are a bit overpriced. It may due to the brand is an American one but I&#8217;m a consumer based in the EU.<\/p>\n<p>But still, I find their pricing a bit over the top. For the same price, you can easily get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/stringsets_for_7_string_guitars.html?manufacturer%5B%5D=Elixir&amp;gk=GISAES7S&amp;sp=solr&amp;cme=false&amp;filter=true\"><strong>Elixir 7 string guitar strings<\/strong><\/a> set and you can use them for a lot longer. However, Elixir 7 strings usually do not offer a lot of options when it comes to the different string gauge combination. For instance, there&#8217;s no 11-64 gauge in Elixir catalogue.<\/p>\n<p>Having said that, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL 1164<\/strong><\/a> has become the most popular guitar string set that has received <strong>4.8\/5<\/strong> out of <strong>219 user reviews<\/strong> and ranked in <strong>1st position<\/strong> among hundreds of competitor models and brands in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/stringsets_for_7_string_guitars.html\"><strong>7 string guitar string category<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>cigilovic.com<\/strong> still recommends <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL 1164<\/strong><\/a> for guitar players who don&#8217;t prefer coated strings. Mind you, this NYXL series is not a coated string series so expect it to change colours pretty quickly.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"About_DAddario\"><\/span>About D&#8217;Addario<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario.html\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario<\/strong><\/a> is one of the most respected and well-known companies that manufactures musical instrument strings and accessories based in the USA. Believe it or not, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario.html\"><b>D&#8217;Addario&#8217;s<\/b><\/a> story dates back to the 17th century! The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario.html\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario<\/strong><\/a> family began manufacturing strings for musical instruments in Salle, Italy, and this tradition of musical instrument string-making was passed down to upcoming generations.\u00a0In the early 20th century, the family immigrated to the USA and also brought their centuries-old tradition with them. During this era, the company introduced legendary classical guitar strings, <strong>Pro-Arte<\/strong> and electric guitar strings, and XL, which became the industry standard in the MI industry. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario.html\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario<\/strong><\/a> company has been steadily growing since the 1990s, and to this day, they have expanded the company&#8217;s presence around the globe and established manufacturing and distribution networks around the world. <strong>D&#8217;Addario<\/strong> also acquired multiple well-known brands, such as <strong>Planet Waves<\/strong>, <strong>Evans<\/strong> (drum heads) and positioned itself as a leader in the MI industry.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"DAddario_NYXL1164\"><\/span>D&#8217;Addario NYXL1164<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL1164<\/strong><\/a> features a nickel-plated steel wrap wire and claims to be a premium uncoated electric string. This series offers a higher break strength, enhanced tuning stability and accentuated mid-range response.\u00a0According to <strong>D&#8217;Addario<\/strong>, the enhanced mid-range response is in the <strong>1 to 3.5kHz<\/strong> range, and it claims to offer more presence and crunchiness to your guitar tone, thus resulting in a guitar tone that cuts through the mix easily. The company also uses <strong>Fusion Twist<\/strong> technology and claims that the tuning stability of <strong>NYXL<\/strong> series strings is 131&amp; better than standard strings. So when you buy any D&#8217;Addario strings, you will always easily identify which is which! \ud83d\ude42\u00a0Inside the package, you will find a sealed plastic pack, which is another great feature from this lovely company. However, there&#8217;s no guarantee that other guitar string manufacturers will also implement this. <strong>D&#8217;Addario<\/strong> also has a pretty cool approach to marketing, and their strings always come with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daddario.com\/players-circle\/\"><strong>Player&#8217;s Circle Code<\/strong><\/a> inside the packages. You need to simply open an account on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daddario.com\/\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario website<\/strong><\/a> and enter these codes to earn points. However, I was able to break the high E string in a couple of weeks, so I couldn&#8217;t really come up with a brief test video and an article.\u00a0In the meantime, I stocked up on a lot of Elixir 7 strings, but have never used them on my Schecter. I was instead using <a href=\"https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/gear-reviews\/pyramid-7-string-review\/\"><strong>Pyramid 7 String<\/strong><\/a> guitar strings as they were very affordable and offered a huge value\/money.\u00a0Since the <a href=\"https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/gear-reviews\/pyramid-7-string-review\/\"><strong>Pyramid 7-string<\/strong><\/a> set featured <strong>10-56 gaug<\/strong>e strings and felt really easy to play, I did not hesitate much to try <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL 1164<\/strong><\/a> on my 7-string guitar.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12708\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12708\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12708 size-full\" title=\"NYXL 1164 with Schecter Hellraiser\" src=\"https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daddario-nyxl-1164-schecter-hellraiser-pt-7.jpg\" alt=\"NYXL 1164 with Schecter Hellraiser\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daddario-nyxl-1164-schecter-hellraiser-pt-7.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daddario-nyxl-1164-schecter-hellraiser-pt-7-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12708\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NYXL 1164 with Schecter Hellraiser<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After going through an in-depth cleaning and maintenance session on my lovely <a href=\"https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/guitar-reviews\/schecter-hellraiser-hybrid-pt-7-ultra-violet-review\/\"><strong>Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid PT-7<\/strong><\/a>, I finally decided to give it a go and restrung my guitar with a <strong>NYXL 1164<\/strong> set.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12709\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12709\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12709 size-full\" title=\"New strings\" src=\"https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daddario-nyxl-1164-schecter-hellraiser-pt-7-new-strings.jpg\" alt=\"New strings\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daddario-nyxl-1164-schecter-hellraiser-pt-7-new-strings.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/cigilovic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/daddario-nyxl-1164-schecter-hellraiser-pt-7-new-strings-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12709\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New strings<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I believe I was thinking of going for lower tunings with this set and just trying how my guitar would react. Because when I tried to lower the tuning with a more standard 7-string set, I always had tension issues with the lower strings. Also, even on standard tuning, the low E doesn&#8217;t feel like a standard scale guitar. Having said that, when I tried going down a whole step with these strings, I pretty much had the same result. I tried to get used to it for a couple of days, but it did not work out for me. So I returned my guitar to Bb standard tuning. I think this set feels amazingly good for Bb standard tuning on a 7-string guitar. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><div class='code-block code-block-5' style='margin: 8px 0; clear: both;'>\n<div class=\"seo-index-box seo-index-box--ad\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/redir.love\/EkzuHK1y\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/interactive-brokers-banner-2025.jpg\" alt=\"Interactive Brokers online trading and investing platform\" width=\"1000\" height=\"156\">\n\t<\/a>\n\t<p class=\"seo-ad-caption\">\n\t\tEarn up to <strong>1000 USD for free<\/strong> and start trading with Interactive Brokers.\n\t<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mind you, when you go for bigger gauges, especially on the thick bottom strings, it gradually becomes more difficult to play. Of course, this is my opinion and how I perceive the sensation of playing a 7-string guitar. However, I think unless you are into extreme genres that require very low tunings, you should stop there and just question if you are to play a bass guitar or an electric guitar :). But it is still a lot of fun to play these thicker-gauged strings on a 7-string with lots of distortion!<\/p>\n<p>As I mentioned in the beginning, I find the NYXL series is a bit overpriced. They are basically trying to sell you pretty good but uncoated strings for more money than an industry-standard coated string would cost.\u00a0When I tried <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl09564sb.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL 09564SB<\/strong><\/a> back in the day, I felt the same, maybe even worse, because it was even more expensive. Especially if you are into lower tunings such as Bb standard. In my opinion, they sound and feel pretty good, and this is probably why people love these strings so much!\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/daddario_nyxl1164.htm\"><strong>D&#8217;Addario NYXL 1164<\/strong><\/a> has managed to become the most popular 7-string guitar string set that has received <strong>4.8\/5<\/strong> out of <strong>219 user reviews<\/strong> and ranked in <strong>1st position<\/strong> among hundreds of competitor models and brands in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/stringsets_for_7_string_guitars.html\"><strong>7-string guitar string category<\/strong><\/a>. The problem with the NYXL series strings is that I believe they are a bit overpriced. It may be due to the brand being an American one, but I&#8217;m a consumer based in the EU.<\/p>\n<p>But still, I find their pricing a bit over the top. For the same price, you can easily get an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thomann.de\/intl\/stringsets_for_7_string_guitars.html?manufacturer%5B%5D=Elixir&amp;gk=GISAES7S&amp;sp=solr&amp;cme=false&amp;filter=true\"><strong>Elixir 7-string guitar string<\/strong><\/a> set, and you can use them for a lot longer. However, Elixir 7 sets usually do not offer a lot of options when it comes to the different string gauge combinations. Mind you, this NYXL series is not a coated string series, so expect it to change colours pretty quickly. But personally, I wouldn&#8217;t stock these strings and probably stick to Elixir 7 strings as I&#8217;m not a big fan of extremely low tunings of extended-scale guitars.
