A few weeks ago, the Future of Open Research: Reliable, Responsible, Equitable Conference (#FOR2026) took place at the Technical University of Munich’s Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS). The conference explored how open research practices can better serve the public interest while recognizing that the concept of “public interest” varies across communities, contexts, and global perspectives. A distinctive aspect of FOR2026 was its emphasis on arts and humanities contributions, highlighting alternative ways of representing and communicating open research. Dr. Franziska Poszler, Principal Investigator and Project Lead of #MoralPLai, participated in the poster sessions, presenting MoralPLai as a case study in innovative science communication for AI ethics. The presentation demonstrated how humanities and cultural studies methodologies can help bridge academia and society while fostering AI literacy. The poster focused on the narrative and 2025 debut of The Third Voice, the methodologies used for audience engagement and evaluation, and key findings from audience feedback. 🎉 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 On May 21st, the Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence - TUM, together with colleagues from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) and the University of Vienna convened a roundtable on “𝘈𝘐 𝘎𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦” at the TUM Think Tank. Held in the broader context the International Dialogue on Global AI Governance organized by UN ODET, UNESCO and ITU, as well as the AI Impact Summit, the discussions built upon earlier conversations initiated by the IEAI on the need for a 𝗨𝗡 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗜, 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀. Participants explored how recent technological breakthroughs and evolving geopolitical dynamics affect both the feasibility and the necessity of global AI governance frameworks. The conversation highlighted that effective governance is not only about regulating AI and associated systems, but also about addressing the broader societal and political implications of AI, including its use by states and the mechanisms needed to ensure universal enforcement, the mitigation of algorithmic harm and governmental accountability. Particular attention was given to the impact of AI on fundamental concepts such as human dignity, privacy and self-determination, which might require the doctrinal expansion of existing human rights. The discussion also underscored the importance of incorporating diverse international perspectives shaped by different historical experiences and value traditions, including varying views on the interpretation of human rights within Europe. A central question throughout the discussion was how consensus can be built amongst diverse stakeholders in an increasingly fragmented world. The exchange reaffirmed the importance of developing international frameworks grounded in the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN Charter. We look forward to continuing this dialogue. One conclusion stood out clearly: 𝗔𝗜 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆—𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Many thanks to the organizers—Christoph Lütge, Caitlin Corrigan, Alexander Kriebitz, Stefanos Athanasiou, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Lysander Fremuth & Dr. Camilla Haake—and to all of the participants who traveled from near and far to contribute to this important discussion. 🚨𝗜𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽-𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁?🚨 AI tools like ChatGPT Health promise fast, clear, personalised health information. For example, helping someone quickly understand their symptoms or make sense of complex medical jargon without hours of searching. 💡 But here’s the catch: AI doesn’t just deliver information- it filters and frames it. 🤔 That raises real concerns: - Which sources are prioritised? - What biases are embedded? - Are users being informed, or subtly guided? ❗By simplifying information, AI may reduce overload but it can also narrow perspectives and impact autonomy. 🔔 The goal shouldn’t be replacing help-seeking, but supporting it, while preserving choice, transparency and trust. 👉 So when AI enters healthcare, we should ask: Who shapes the answers and what might be left out? 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dzUqxEER Dr. Auxane Boch, Christoph Lütge, Anna Keune, Azzurra Ruggeri, Urs Gasser, Stephan Wensveen, Martijn Willemsen, Carlos Zednik, Avi (Avigdor) Gal, Sneha Das, Nicole Lønfeldt, Daniel Gatica-Perez, Andrea Cavallaro, Claudia Mertinger, Juergen Neises, Isabelle Segarini, Frederic Keller, Inge Vermeesch, Simay Toplu, Julia L., Cen Lu, MohaNed Bahr, LL.M., Baihong Bao, Zeynep Kabadere, Xiaoyu Wang, Yung-Chen Tang, Stefano Sorrentino, Eva Paraschou, Matilde Barbini, Katerina Drakos, Sharvari Bondre, Tuan-Ting Huang, Hewei Gao, Gokce Sahin, Santiago Hurtado, Janet Huang, Yaren Apaydın #AI #ethics #responsibleAI #alignAI #MSCA #DoctoralNetworks #HorizonEurope

🔮𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗟𝗠𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀?🔮 When King Croesus consulted the Oracle at Delphi, he received an ambiguous prophecy: "𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘺 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦". He interpreted it as an endorsement, and in the end destroyed his own. Today's LLMs give us confident, articulate answers. But here's the problem: 📊 Studies show LLMs tend to maintain consistent confidence even when wrong, sometimes becoming MORE confident as accuracy declines. 🧠 Users increasingly manifest difficulty in distinguishing LLM text from human writing, with anthropomorphism undermining critical evaluation. ⚠️ We've replaced interpretive ambiguity with performative certainty, but the need for interpretation hasn't disappeared, it's just been hidden. The ancient oracle's ambiguity was epistemically honest. It distributed responsibility: the Pythia channeled, priests mediated, and consultants interpreted within their context. Modern AI systems often present themselves as direct truth-bearers, obscuring the interpretive chain. This creates what philosophers call the "responsibility gap": who's accountable when confident AI outputs lead to poor decisions? 💡 The solution maybe be not rejecting AI, but recovering "hermeneutic consciousness": recognising that AI outputs are texts requiring active interpretation, not facts to passively accept. We need to ask not "𝘐𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦?" but "𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴? 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘦? 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯?" 📖 Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/eVv-yZR9 Dr. Auxane Boch, Christoph Lütge, Anna Keune, Azzurra Ruggeri, Urs Gasser, Stephan Wensveen, Martijn Willemsen, Carlos Zednik, Avi (Avigdor) Gal, Sneha Das, Nicole Lønfeldt, Daniel Gatica-Perez, Andrea Cavallaro, Claudia Mertinger, Juergen Neises, Isabelle Segarini, Frederic Keller, Inge Vermeesch, Simay Toplu, Julia L., Cen Lu, MohaNed Bahr, LL.M., Baihong Bao, Zeynep Kabadere, Xiaoyu Wang, Yung-Chen Tang, Stefano Sorrentino, Eva Paraschou, Matilde Barbini, Katerina Drakos, Sharvari Bondre, Tuan-Ting Huang, Hewei Gao, Gokce Sahin, Santiago Hurtado, Janet Huang, Yaren Apaydın #ArtificialIntelligence #AIEthics #ResponsibleAI #CriticalThinking #Epistemology #AILiteracy #LLMs #GenerativeAI #TrustworthyAI #HumanAIInteraction #PhilosophyOfTechnology #alignAI #MSCA #DoctoralNetworks #HorizonEurope
