Last week, the International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) held its 25th annual meeting in Cádiz, bringing together over 1,000 researchers, policymakers, and practitioners. Dylan Power, PhD, from Urban Cycling Institute, presented a poster on behalf of the team, titled: "(Co)Developing Active Mobility Policy in the Caribbean Region: Policy-oriented Physical Activity Research on the Dutch Caribbean Island of Bonaire" The research highlights the need to support physical activity policies in communities like Bonaire, with the community at the centre! The role of cycling in achieving population and public health goals is becoming more prominent in global literature, and our research on Bonaire is proud to be part of that conversation. Hot Take: The fatbike is not the problem. Mobility poverty is. 🚲⚡ Latest research by Meredith Glaser and co-authors Susan Hoitingh David Veen Eve Wijnen from the University of Amsterdam challenges the dominant narrative against fatbike use. The public debate in the #Netherlands has stigmatised fatbike users, especially the youth, as antisocial and dangerous. However, the research finds that fatbikes reduce financial and spatial barriers to mobility and provide essential "mobility of care". They also enhance connectivity for youth and residents living on the city's outskirts So can we be open to thinking of the fatbike as a tool for mobility justice, and not a threat to it?
