• Hi,

Can I move a single WordPress website (with posts and images) to WordPress Multisite? I have a WPMU network, and I would like to migrate a standalone WP website to WPMU subsite.

    Is it possible somehow?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

The “easy way” doesn’t contain how to copy uploads to the new place (WPMU). The export function create xml file only for posts and pages.

Yeah, the ‘hard way’ should cover that.

The easy way probably assumes that ‘you uploaded once… you just do it again’. That’s not always easy itself. I forget stuff.

Anyway, when you go to import the WRX file or whatever they call it, I think the Import asks about the attachments or images. It also asks about the post’s authors.

You can FTP the whole directory to the proper upload directory which is under the site number in uploads there if I remember right.

You can find the site number is the network’s ‘sites’ settings page.

BTW: save your old site’s last good backup. There’s always something that ‘gets forgotten’.

Oh, yeah, the Import ‘plugin’ needs to be added to the Multisite also, sometimes that gets to be confusing itself. Other times it will already be there because someone else needed it.

Only the superuser admin (the network admin for the multisite) can add plugins.
