🎖️ BIG NEWS from YEP!🎖️ We’re excited to share that YEP! has been awarded a grant from America Walks to launch our newest initiative: Walk With Us MN! This project, led by Founder Corrin Wendell, FAICP, is all about restoring trust, safety, and confidence in walking to school—especially for families impacted by recent challenges and uncertainty in our communities. As 1 of 15 projects selected, out of 130 applicants, this work will: ✨ Partner with students, families, and schools across Minnesota ✨ Co-create safe routes to school through walk audits and community input ✨ Launch walking school buses led by trusted community members ✨ Implement quick-build safety improvements like crosswalk visibility, lighting, and wayfinding ✨ Provide multilingual resources to ensure all families feel informed and supported Our goal is simple but powerful: ➡️ More students walking safely ➡️ Stronger community connections ➡️ Rebuilt trust in everyday public spaces By the end of the project, we aim to increase walking participation, reduce safety concerns, and create a replicable model for communities across Minnesota and beyond. This work is deeply rooted in equity, youth voice, and community leadership—and we’re just getting started! 💬 Because everyone deserves to feel safe walking in their own neighborhood. #WalkWithUsMN #AmericaWalks #SafeRoutesToSchool #YouthEngagement #CommunitySafety #ActiveTransportation #YEP #WalkableCommunities #EquityInAction https://lnkd.in/eKkwX86g

📢 WEBINAR: Paint, Posts, and Planters – How to Advance Road Safety with Traffic Calming Quick-Builds 👟🎨🪴 High-speed, car-oriented roads can be transformed into safe, multimodal streets for all users by reducing lane widths, limiting long sight-lines, and adding visual friction... but these projects involve a long and expensive planning, approval, design, and construction process, which often triggers vocal opposition. That's where quick-builds come in! A similar traffic-calming impact can be achieved with a temporary, low-cost installation consisting of paint, posts, and planters. Join us to learn how to use quick-build demonstration projects to build community support for permanent solutions, featuring our Top 🔟 Tips for quick-builds and success stories from Hartford, Connecticut and Mission, Montana (Flathead Indian Reservation)! #ActivePeople 🗓️ Tuesday, June 23, 2026 ⏰️ 2:00 pm ET / 1:00 pm CT /11:00 am PT 🔗 RSVP: https://buff.ly/aLZNI3X

‼️Hey #RhodeIsland! In 2019, 63% of all deaths in crashes were speed-related, meaning Rhode Island is the state with the highest percentage of speed-related fatalities in the US. TAKE ACTION: Tell your elected officials to support legislation to #StopSuperSpeeders and make our roads safer! ➡️ https://buff.ly/IMSglYq Families for Safe Streets

‼️ Today is your LAST CHANCE to donate to America Walks during our Spring Fundraising Campaign! Every donation goes toward supporting campaigns like Week Without Driving and Communities Over Highways, which highlight the many barriers people face moving daily through their communities, and empower local residents and leaders to advocate for walkability and change. The current federal transportation bill in Congress fails non-drivers, pedestrians, and those rolling and biking. Despite a national affordability crisis and rising gas prices, it increases funding for dangerous highways that divide communities. Any reforms to boost support for non-driving options, improve transit, or prioritize safe, walkable communities are being axed. We believe that is unacceptable. 🌟 America Walks is working with our national allies to slow down this bill and rewrite it to match the times we are in. That takes your support. Donate today to join the Walkability Movement! ➡️ https://buff.ly/p2ikfey

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee released its version of the next major federal transportation law... Here's what our Executive Director Mike McGinn had to say about it: “We are in an affordability crisis with transportation policies that tie us to the fuel pump. When given the chance to do something about it, we get a bipartisan proposal to increase highway expansion, cut transit, and eliminate programs designed to make neighborhoods more walkable.” Read more in the latest Streetsblog ➡️

On Monday, a new 5-year federal transportation bill hit the U.S. House of Representatives... Despite a national affordability crisis and rising gas prices, it contains no meaningful reforms to boost support for non-driving options, improve transit, or prioritize safe, walkable communities. Instead it eliminates programs like Neighborhood Access and Equity grants, which provide alternatives to driving and repair the harm of damaging urban highways. What's not cut? The same policies that have led to unsafe streets, increased pollution, growing congestion, and car dependence. This bill also allows the current administration to withhold congressionally approved funding for anything the they deem to be anti-driving, including sidewalks and bus lanes. America Walks is working with our national allies to slow down this bill and rewrite it to match the times we are in. That takes your support. America Walks followers know we don’t soften our message when the political climate gets difficult. We lean in. Lean in for PEOPLE, not cars. Lean in for COMMUNITIES, not so-called ‘Freedom to Drive’ Because we believe that accessible, safe, walkable and rollable communities represent freedom, not endless snarls of traffic and tangles of highways. That means showing up in force as Congress begins rewriting federal transportation policy from scratch — and as the administration makes it clear it’s willing to defund, dismantle, or ignore programs that serve people over cars. But this isn’t the kind of work that attracts big foundation grants. Major funders tend to sit out federal transportation fights. The fuel for this advocacy comes directly from individuals who care enough to give. If that’s you — and we think it is — please consider making a gift this week during our Spring Fundraising Campaign. Generous donors have offered to match the first $5000 we raise — help us get there! Donate today ➡️ https://buff.ly/14u2YHQ
