AUTOMOTIVE JOB HUNTERS: FINDING THE JOB OFFER Many of you have been to one or more of the three casinos in downtown Detroit. Most of you probably avoid the roulette table. This is prudent. It's a tough game and you'll see the dedicated enthusiasts holding their beverages and bending over the table to spread their bets. The excitement amps up as the dealer shoots the steel ball around at light speed, spinning and circling until it makes it's sudden stop on the lucky number. Moments later, losing bets are swiftly retrieved and the winner cheer and celebrate with a huge gobble of their beverage. And you're like "whoa" and you look around at the few losers to go find a slot machine. Not for me! These roulette pros have the precise same goal as the present automotive job seeker. They are looking for a "yes" in a sea of "no's". Like it or not, this is the game. And it truly is a game. If you don't play, there's simply no way to win or find your "yes...you're hired". Diligence, patience, fortitude, and a whole lot of luck remains the time-tested elements required in a soft market when forced to find a job. With the advent of stronger algorithms and the increasing power of AI, not only can job seekers target openings in magnified productivity and complete applications, but companies also use these tools for pre-screening and excising low ranking applicants without a human being even seeing the application. Ouch! A job advertisement is a super-powered magnet for applications. Not only that, but applicants who are hundreds of miles from the employer burn and churn through "APPLY NOW" or "EASY APPLY" buttons loading HR computers with hundreds upon hundreds of applications. After 24 years of running a local technical recruiting firm, I witness first-hand the pressure candidates naturally encounter. You cannot avoid the roulette table of job hunting or the screening tech rejecting you. There's no bypassing this. Naturally, your mind will swing from rationalization, placing guilt in the way, questioning your condition and identity, and continually in a non-stop way emphasize the failure of the search. But if you flip the script the exact same way as the roulette player, you will focus your hunt on the magical white lion in the safari. In other words, you MUST adopt a mindset of moving past the ghosting and "no's" and continue to seek out your first and possibly only "yes"! The "yes...we want you...you're hired" is the OBJECTIVE! Anything that gets in the way of that is the universe attempting to tamp you down and make you quit. You must choose to fight! You must choose to deny these thoughts. You have no choice! The odds are stacked against you yet you will get hired. You know this! You need to start believing it. You are not climbing Everest without oxygen with no skills or Sherpa to help along the path. Lastly, for Recruiters, it's one of the proudest moments for us to tell the candidate that "YOU GOT THE JOB"! Believe it!
