We leverage the power of storytelling and media technology to create social behavioural change.

About us

Founded in 2012, Tai has earned recognition for producing educational, culturally relevant content that addresses critical social challenges such as education, gender-based violence, environmental degradation, teenage pregnancy, child marriage, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and menstrual hygiene. In Sub-Saharan Africa, millions of girls are denied access to education due to harmful practices like child marriage and FGM. Furthermore, individuals with disabilities face stigma, limited resources, and the growing digital divide, which hinders access to educational and social opportunities. Tai employs Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) strategies to actively engage communities in tackling these issues. Through close collaboration with schools, local leaders, and other community influencers, Tai encourages local ownership of solutions, ensuring that interventions are both sustainable and culturally resonant. Tai also develops digital tools for educators and parents, facilitating ongoing, meaningful conversations about social challenges both at home and in the wider community. At the core of Tai's mission is empowering young people by using Human-Centered Design (HCD) and SBCC to craft solutions that foster long-term social transformation. Tai combines data-driven insights with storytelling and digital technology to create compelling narratives that challenge harmful social norms, inspire positive behavior change, and build more inclusive, resilient communities. To date, Tai has reached over 67,000 students in more than 100 schools across Tanzania and Kenya, and its multimedia educational content has touched an estimated 17 million people across East Africa through traditional and digital platforms. A notable partnership with UNICEF has led to the localization of the Oky-App, the first-period tracker that helps girls monitor their menstrual cycles and access sexual and reproductive health content for free. Additionally, Tai's digital tools provide essential

Last week at Keko Secondary and Primary School, in partnership with Woyota, we engaged over 600 students on the importance of understanding Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), its effects, prevention, reporting pathways, and the role each individual plays in creating safer school and community environments. This activity was conducted under the SAFE Program Access to Justice for Women and Children / Society in Action for Equality, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs (MoCLA) and GIZ Tanzania, with the aim of improving access to justice and strengthening awareness and prevention of violence against women and children. Through impactful educational content including Shani 1 animations with Paza Sauti and Bonde comic books, students learned, reflected, and shared ideas on building safer and more supportive environments for learning and growth. Together, we continue empowering young people with knowledge that protects, inspires, and transforms lives. #teamtaiweflyhigh🦅 #impactfulstorytelling

When every other person is enjoying their life, there is a girl who has to go through period struggles every month in a different way. 💔 Period safety is something we don’t often talk about in most African countries, but it’s time to break the silence. Today, as we reflect on our participation at the Hedhi Salama Marathon, we continue to hear the voices that scream for help and Oky Tanzania is responding with an open mind and open heart, making sure girls can track their periods and access correct information about menstrual health and hygiene. I am committed to making period safety a priority and a pride for all women and girls. ✨ What about you?????

  • During the Tanzania Youth Development Forum, after the SRHR panel discussion which brought together experts from the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to discuss Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) issues affecting young people, Tai had an opportunity to screen our animation Karasha to further cement the conversation around SRHR among youth. The animation raises awareness on the importance of young people seeking the right information about SRHR and utilizing youth-friendly healthcare services available in their communities through relatable storytelling and experiences. #teamtaiweflyhigh🦅 #impactfulstorytelling
