Had a fantastic week connecting with peers at MLSys 2026 in Bellevue! It was a privilege to share a bit about our engineering philosophy at Waymo. While we capture massive amounts of real-world data daily, the real system magic is in the curation. Instead of feeding all of it into the Waymo Driver, our intelligent selection system surfaces the highest-value data points. This allows us to scale our infrastructure and turn real-world driving data into model improvements continuously and efficiently. Proud to see our teams showing up in force to demonstrate how we translate cutting-edge ML infrastructure into tangible, real-world impact.

We’re excited to announce a first-of-its-kind partnership with B2U Storage Solutions, where we’ll be repurposing our retired electric vehicle batteries into energy storage in the communities we operate. Rather than going straight to recycling, our batteries will be given a second life using B2U’s patented technology, integrating them into grid-scale storage systems that dispatch energy back to the grid during peak demand hours. Hundreds of megawatts of storage capacity will be deployed through this program, which will initially focus on Texas and California where we operate robust public services. Psssssst! We’re here to let you in on a not-so-secret-secret. Autonomous ride-hailing company Waymo are making their rides available to London’s public later this year.  Joining our wonderful city’s extensive travel options – tube, bus, bike, your feet – Waymo are set to launch their services through the Waymo app.   With just a few days to go to SXSW London, you can look forward to hearing from Waymo themselves. Their Chief Product Officer, Saswat Panigrahi, will be taking to the main stage at 1.25pm on Tuesday 2 June, for a talk on ‘The Robotaxi Reality’ and how Waymo plans to tackle London’s complexity. They are also joining the panel ‘Accessibility & The City’ – looking at how to create a London that works for everyone. Additionally, you can drop by the Waymo Studio + Cafe in Protein Studios from Mon-Thurs where you can grab a coffee and take a peek under the hood to see how the Waymo Driver works. Christopher is an adult with Autism and a participant at The Arc San Francisco. Since joining Waymo's Trusted Tester program in 2022, he's taken more than 650 rides—on his own terms. For millions of Americans, reliable transportation isn't a convenience. It's access to work, healthcare, community, and more. Waymo is proud to partner with The Arc San Francisco and Autism Society of America to design and develop accessibility features that make independent travel possible for more people like Christopher.
